Seed Library is back at the Old Forge Library!

Seed Library is back at the Old Forge Library!

The Old Forge Library, 220 Crosby Blvd., invites our community members to stop by and take part in this Spring's Seed Library starting in April. There will be a variety of seed packets and a few plants for people to take and use in their own home gardens. This spring the library hopes to have a generous donation of propogated houseplants on offer as well. If you have seeds, seedlings or plants you’d like to donate and share, please drop them off.

The library has several upcoming programs geared towards gardening and growing plants and vegetables.

The first of six sessions of Wild Infusions Herbal Study led by Jessica Maureen Hinsdill, will discuss Dandelion on Tuesday, May 21 at 6 pm.

On Monday, April 22 at 4 pm. The library will celebrate Earth Day with a sapling give away, DIY pollinator seed bomb activity, a DIY recycled coke bottle terrarium activity, a sing-along lead by Folk musicians Cosby Gibson & Tom Staudle, and a meal.

There will be a Outside Mushroom Gardening workshop with Tommy Hugh, local mycologist , on Saturday May 18, time to be announced.

On Thursdsay, June 6 at 5 pm, Foraging for Pesto, an outdoor workshop, will teach participants how to make pesto from ingredients found in the area.

The Garden Club will lead an Embracing Your Weeds workshop on Tuesday, June 11 at 10:30 am.

Check out the library website www.oldforgelibrary.org for more information on registration and confirmation of dates and times.

In addition, the library has collected a special selection of books geared toward Adirondack gardening available to borrow with your library card. Our local challenges with a Zone 3 climate, and a hungry deer population are topics covered as well as books on container gardening and composting.

The library is wishing all of our community a happy growing season, and would like to take the opportunity to remind gardeners that they can harvest seeds from mature plants this summer, and drop them off for next year’s seed library.
