Free Virtual Job Fair for Women Who Seek ‘Nontraditional’ Employment Opportunities

Utica, NY – The Workforce Development Board, Herkimer, Madison, Oneida, Inc.’s (WDB/HMO) Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations (WANTO) grant program is hosting a free women-focused virtual job fair on Wednesday, July 27th, from 11:00am to 1:00pm.

“The Women in Apprenticeship and Nontraditional Occupations (WANTO) grant has assisted over 260 women who have shown an interest in pursuing nontraditional training and employment within IT/Cybersecurity, Advanced Manufacturing, the Trades, and more,” says Project Director Sommer Edwards.

Nontraditional occupations are defined by the U.S. Department of Labor as any industry in which females make up 25% or less of the workforce.

“Our virtual job fairs have proven to be exceptionally helpful in providing women with the opportunity to further connect with employers to learn more about the workforce and explore new career options,” Ms. Edwards says. “As our grant is coming to a close, I encourage all who are interested in our 17-county outreach to take advantage of our platform and make new professional connections.”

WANTO serves the following counties: Broome, Chenango, Delaware, Fulton, Hamilton, Herkimer, Jefferson, Lewis, Madison, Montgomery, Oneida, Onondaga, Otsego, Schoharie, St. Lawrence, Tioga, and Tompkins. Women, 18 years old and older, and employers throughout the entire 17-county region are invited to register.

The job fair utilizes the Virtual platform, which is easy to use and feature-rich for both businesses and job seekers. Platform training is available before the event and training videos, training materials and support are available within the platform.
