Arc Herkimer & Basloe Library Host August Art Reception

Herkimer, NY  During the month of August, Arc Herkimer will launch another installation of its traveling art show, Art Without Boundaries: Arc Herkimer Artists Present at the Frank J. Basloe Library.

On August 1, the agency and library will host an art reception in celebration of the show between 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Frank J. Basloe Library in Herkimer. Community members are invited to the reception, where they will enjoy refreshments while viewing cooperative works of art.

The library walls will exhibit original artwork created by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, supported by Arc Herkimer. In addition, the gallery will showcase collaborative pieces created with youth of the library’s children’s program. The groups worked together on pop art collages constructed from recycled magazines and found materials.

“We’re so pleased to move into the next phase of the art show with a focus on integration and inclusion, not only within our agency but throughout the community,” says Catherine Loomis, Vice President Community Engagement and Career Development. “We are proud to partner and collaborate with our neighbor and a fellow non-profit, Basloe Library, to showcase another creative outlet.”

"The Basloe Library is excited to be partnering with Arc Herkimer to bring an art gallery to the library,” says Christine Fleischer, Library Director. “We enjoy working with our community partners to bring new and different events to Herkimer. It was so much fun sharing our summer reading program art class with Arc; both groups worked to create collages that depicted their individual artists."

Art Without Boundaries: Arc Herkimer Artists Present was made possible by a grant from CNY Arts, a regional arts council promoting, supporting, and celebrating arts and culture in Central New York.

Media are welcome and encouraged to attend the reception.
