AmeriCU Credit Union teams up with US Army
ROME, NY – APRIL 5, AmeriCU Credit Union and US Army team up to bring the Tunnel to Towers 9/11 NEVER FORGET Mobile Exhibit to Griffiss Technology Park. The mobile exhibit will be open to the public on Thursday, April 20 through Sunday, April 23 from 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM.
The exhibit features artifacts from the World Trade Center and guided tours from New York City Firefighters who responded to Ground Zero on September 11th. FDNY Firefighters share their stories of what happened that day and the days after, bringing history to life. The 83-foot tractor-trailer transforms into a 1,100 square foot exhibit which features World Trade Center Steel, aluminum façade from the buildings, radio transmissions from first responders, and items found in the rubble after the Twin Towers collapsed. Since 2013, the Tunnel to Towers 9/11 NEVER FORGET Mobile Exhibit has traveled the country educating Americans about what happened that day.
“AmeriCU Credit Union is honored to co-host Tunnel to Towers 9/11 NEVER FORGET Mobile Exhibit with the US Army. This cause speaks to our military roots as an organization. AmeriCU was founded on Griffiss Air Force Base and has over 70 years of experience serving our armed forces and their families,” says Ron Belle, AmeriCU President and CEO. “By sharing a piece of history, we are building stronger connections with our community. Every day, America’s military members and first responders selflessly put their lives on the line to keep us safe and free. The exhibit is a way for us to honor those who did the same on that day.”
“The United States Army is incredibly proud to assist in bringing the Tunnel to Towers 9/11 NEVER FORGET Mobile Exhibit to the Greater Rome/Utica area of Upstate New York. As an all-volunteer Army, we find a sense of purpose in fighting for the ideals of Freedom and Democracy that were so viciously attacked on that day. We are reminded that safety and security are never guaranteed or free. Terrorists attempts to weaken this country’s resolve unleashed the power of ultimate selflessness embodied in the courageous First Responders that came to the rescue that fateful day. We can never forget what was sacrificed by those innocent Americans that simply went to work that morning and by those First Responders that sprang into action because of their dedication to others. Freedom, Democracy, safety, and security are all worth fighting for and it is our duty to educate and remind future generations,” says Lieutenant Colonel John R. Dickens Commander, US Army Syracuse Recruiting Battalion.

About Syracuse Recruiting Battalion
“Excelsior”
The battalion was given the name “Excelsior Battalion” when the Syracuse District Recruiting Command, consolidated with the Buffalo District Recruiting Command in 1982. Excelsior is the Official slogan for New York State and its branding can be often seen in public, particularly anywhere the state seal is found. In addition, New York State played a significant role in the Revolutionary War with numerous historical battle sites in our area of recruiting operations, such as the Siege at Fort Stanwix in Rome, NY August 2-22, 1777. The “Excelsior’ moniker appeared on cuff buttons worn by New York militia Soldiers. The U.S. Army Syracuse Recruiting Battalion is headquartered in Syracuse, NY overseeing the recruiting mission of six Recruiting Companies. The battalion covers an area that spans more than thirty-thousand square miles in Upstate New York and Northeastern Pennsylvania: from Potsdam to Stroudsburg, from Binghamton to Jamestown, and from Niagara Falls to Rome. To perform our mission, a staff of twenty-four Soldiers and Civilians work in the battalion headquarters in Syracuse. In addition, more than one-hundred and seventy recruiters are located at twenty-five recruiting stations throughout six company geographical areas. In addition to recruiting enlisted personnel for the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserves, the battalion’s mission includes recruiting for Special Forces, Linguists, Army Band members, as well as Officer and Warrant Officer Flight candidates. The 1st Recruiting Brigade is the Syracuse Battalion’s higher headquarters, located at Fort Meade, MD. The U.S. Army Recruiting Command, located at Ft Knox, KY, ultimately oversees all U.S. Army recruiting efforts of all 5 Brigades.
